We spend a lot of time, when organising the Wigan Business Awards, encouraging other businesspeople to tell their story.
It’s part of what we do.
Stopping to look back at how far you’ve come is something you almost have to do on purpose. Giving praise where it’s due, being brave enough to put yourself forward and taking that leap of faith to stand in front of judges takes courage and a certain amount of self-belief.
Every now and then, we take our own advice.
Putting Our Money Where Our Mouth Is
So instead of telling people how good (understatement of the year award goes to the author) the Wigan Business Awards campaign is, we decided to put the work itself in front of independent judges.
Last year, that decision paid off when Launch NW won the Marketing Impact Award at the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce Excellence Awards, recognising the impact of and work behind the Wigan Business Awards campaign.
This year, we’re back.
On Friday, Launch NW will return to the Excellence Awards as finalists for Micro Business of the Year.
Then, the following week, we’re heading to the Enterprise Vision Awards, where we’re finalists for Family Business of the Year.
And that one feels big. It feels bit because it IS BIG.
Supporting Women in Business
The EVAs celebrate women in business from across the UK, so to see our little family-run business from Atherton sitting in the company of some GREATS is something we’re genuinely proud of.
We spend most of our time behind the scenes.
Helping other businesses find the words to tell their story, so yes, putting ourselves forward still feels a bit strange.
Taking Our Own Advice
But there’s a lot to be said for backing yourself.
We tell other businesses all the time not to be scared to stand up, talk about what they’ve achieved and give themselves some credit.
At some point, we had to take our own advice.
Because if you believe in the work you’re doing, you shouldn’t be scared to stand up for it.
And let’s be honest, there is something even more satisfying about Awards winning awards.
